This year has been a busy one for our team at Transmara Sugar Company. Part of our company’s mission is to improve the region’s road infrastructure, benefiting our local community and providing easier transportation during the sugarcane harvest. Here’s a quick overview of the road repairs and bridges that have been completed, and the projects still in progress.
Our aim with Olalui Bridge (Nyasita-Olalui box culvert) is to provide a safe and reliable all-weather river crossing, and we’re pleased to confirm the project is now completed. This 9×9-metre box culvert was constructed by Transmara Sugar Company in collaboration with Narok County Government and cost a total of KES 13.8 million. We worked on a river diversion, a temporary pedestrian footbridge and construction – including backfilling and murram of 100m on the access and exit on either side of the bridge. The work started on 26 January 2026 and was completed by 26 May 2026.
We have upgraded 7.2km of Oldapash – Upper Enchurai Road to improve accessibility and transport. This murram road works project connects Oldapash to Upper Enchurai, linking the Enoosaen and Oloontare regions. The structural integrity of the road has been restored, and we have improved the drainage functionality, so this becomes a safer road for drivers and the rural community. We started in June 2026, and the road was completed in 22 days using a grader excavator, rollers, water bowser, backhoe and canter. We worked closely with the community members who assisted with murram quarry to complete this road, which will make life easier for locals and the movement of sugarcane.
It was time to repair the 3.1km road connecting Ildolisho Primary School and Olenkii Junction, helping mobility for residents and farmers. Spanning the Enoosaen – Osinoni region, the project successfully restored the integrity, drainage and driving experience to this vital rural economic corridor. We completed the roadworks in the second week of July 2026, working alongside community members to get the job done.
The Ololchani-Lepolosi box culvert is currently under construction and progressing well, with completion expected by the end of August 2026. The bridge is 8.6m wide by 7.1m across, and is a collaboration between Transmara Sugar Company and Narok County Government. We started the build on 11 July 2026 with a river diversion, box culvert foundation excavation, and a pedestrian footbridge – and estimate the total construction cost to be KES 11.5 million once completed.

Why is now the right time to do this?
Reliable infrastructure is essential, particularly during the rainy season when damaged roads and river crossings can disrupt transport, delay sugarcane deliveries, and limit access to schools, healthcare facilities, and local markets. By investing now, Transmara Sugar Company is helping ensure that communities remain connected throughout the year while supporting efficient cane transportation during the harvesting season.
